Quality of the education in the building sector

CraftEdu develops innovative qualification and training schemes for craftsmen and on-site workers in the field of energy efficiency and use of renewable energy sources in buildings. CraftEdu supports the EU policies for introduction of nearly zero-energy buildings and deep energy building renovation within a vision for a decarbonized building stock in 2050.

  • Improving the quality of building construction
  • New training programmes for craft professions

What is our challenge?

​Low quality of construction works on-site directly influencing energy efficiency in buildings;
Structural changes in construction industry and technological changes related to energy efficiency and development of renewables;
Decreasing number of pupils at the construction professional schools  and low interest of  youth to the construction industry.

Main goals of the project

  • Creation of eight training programmes for further education and training craftsmen and construction workers in the field of energy efficiency and use renewable energy sources in buildings
  • Development of the on-site training course at based on a training course developed within the CrossCraft project.
  • Development of training courses for further education and training of craftsmen and construction workers in the field of energy efficiency and use renewable energy in buildings.
  • Establishing a permanent network of trainers who will deliver programmes developed within the framework of project.
  • Training of trainers for programme implementation.
  • Development of an e-learning programme for the target audience group of craftsmen and construction professionals in Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
  • Proposals for incentives to increase demand for highly skilled workers to governments.

What we deliver?

The project will set up national qualification and training scheme
for craftsmen in the Czech Republic and develop the further offer of training courses in
Slovakia, Austria and Bulgaria

Project results

Within the CraftEdu project the following have been created and launched training courses and teaching materials:

​8 online training  programmes in the Czech Republic

  • more than 640 pages of teaching texts
  • 16 video courses and lectures
  • 10 e-learning courses
  • 228 participants with issued certificates of completion

5 onlie training programmes in Slovakia

  • 537 pages of training texts for 5 professions
  • 8 e-learning courses
  • 37 video courses and lectures (881 minutes)
  • 196 trainees, 60 participants with successful completion passing the final tests

  • 3 e-learning courses
  • 42 course participants

  • 12 e-learning courses
  • 45 course participants

Target groups

In particular, the project leads to the creation of eight training programmes for further education and training of craftsmen and construction workers in the field of energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources in buildings.
The training programmes have been developed specifically for:
  • HVAC installer
  • Carpenter
  • Electrician (Hight voltage)
  • Electrician (Low voltage)
  • Hydro-insulator
  • Windows Fitter
  • Chimney sweep - installation
  • Chimney sweep - inspection

National selection of professions

Individual occupations will be localised based on the needs of and local context in each partner country.
